ProfileInstitute for Transportation Studies (INSTRAN) is a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) that concerns specifically on sustainable transportation issues both in cities and in villages. INSTRAN was founded in 2001 with the financial support from Steering Committee (SC) International Conference on Sustainable Transport and Clean Air, to continue LPIST program after LPIST returned to its original vision that was to develop transformative social sciences.INSTRAN was founded to contribute some fresh perspectives and point of views as well as real actions in order to develop a transportation system which is more humane, civilized, sustainable and gender-oriented as well as safe and comfortable especially for pedestrians and those using non-motorized transportations (bicycles, pedicabs and carts). The transportation policy that gives priority to motorized transportations and private cars, and discriminates non-motorized transportations is the source of transportation problems in Indonesian cities.
